Survey Says... 2015 Spring Reader Survey Results | CreativeHomeKeeper.com

Survey says… I can’t read type and not think back to days of my youth when I would be sick at home watching daytime TV. Anyone else remember that famous phrase from a popular game show?

A few weeks ago I requested input from all of you in the spring reader’s survey. I felt like I had a good idea of who is actually reading the blog, but I wanted to see if my suspicions were accurate. For the most part they where, but I’ll admit… there were a few fun surprises too!

As promised today I’m going to share the results of the survey, as well as answer some of the questions many of you asked. The reader survey not only helped me to gain a better understanding of who is currently reading my blog but also helped me to finalize some changes that are coming you way. Stay tuned, Friday I’m going to be sharing those too.

Alright, let’s get on with the results!

Basic Demographics

I was amused by this :) While this blog is geared to women (mainly because I am a woman writing to fellow women), men are always welcome here!

More than 85% of you are married.

The one question I forgot to ask was how old your children are.

This was the most interesting to me, it seems that working from home is becoming more and more popular.

The main reason I wanted to know this is because I needed to know if writing about my faith was relevant on the blog. Obviously it is, which is a good thing because it’s something I can’t not write about! :)

I did appreciate the response several of you shared with me about even though you aren’t a Christian you still enjoy reading my blog.

How You Use the Blog

Many of you found CHK through a post shared on social media (my analytics tell me it most likely through Pinterest or Facebook). A lot of you also found my blog through another blog sharing a link or guest post (thank you bloggers!). And for those of you who don’t remember… I don’t blame you :) I can barely remember how I found half of the blogs I read!

I’m not surprised that goal setting posts rank in the top 3 of favorite posts. I am surprised however that recipes and kitchen tips rank as high as they do because it’s one of the topics I actually write the least about. But this did give me a good idea of how to plan for future posts!

Commenting on blogs is a hit or miss. I always think that a certain post would generate a good discussion but it doesn’t and it’s the posts I didn’t even write expecting comments that receive the most.

I do wish the comment section was a bit more active but I know that your time is valuable too. I am pleased that the community is starting to pick up a bit on Facebook though.

Most of you read the latest posts through having them emailed directly to you. Facebook being the second did surprise me since Facebook hardly shows my posts to anyone anymore (those of you who have a fan page knows what that is like!)

I’m glad many of you subscribe to the newsletter, but many of you didn’t know what the difference this was from the daily post emails. The daily post emails are just that- the latest posts I write are emailed to you (you can subscribe to those here)

The newsletter is entirely different. If you signed up for the daily emails you aren’t automatically signed up to receive the newsletter. You have to sign up separately (you can do that here).

If you are on the fence about why you should sign up for two emails stay tuned because on Friday I’m going to go into a little bit more detail of what the newsletter is, why you should sign up for it and what changes I am working on.

What You Would Like To See

When asked what types of posts you would like to read more of, many of you said:

  • reading and book recommendations (I agree)
  • Goal setting and keeping (I have recently started sharing my Weekly Goals with Grace and have some seeds of new posts forming having to do with realistic goal setting, so it’s in the works)
  • Bible study, devotions and/or Scripture memorization
  • Time and money saving advice (especially when it comes to family and children)
  • More housekeeping posts (cleaning, organization, decorating, keeping home) I’m just going to say it… I will probably never write about decorating, if I’m being honest. It’s not something I’m good at or even passionate about, you should see my home, BUT I do believe in loving the home you have and do have plans to right more about that.
  • Recipes (To be honest, 98% of the recipes I cook for my family are recipes I find from other bloggers or cookbooks so they aren’t my own. Also I’m a terrible food photographer, just look at this recipe post— good recipe, terrible picture! Maybe I can do some recipe round up posts?)
  • Activities and advice for children of all ages
  • More personal family updates (because as one survey response said, “It makes me feel like you are my friend than just a random blogger!”) – That made my heart happy!

As far as how the blog can be made better, you said:

  • better mobile readiness– I’ve come to realize many of you read the blog on your phone and it can be kind of hard to read. I will look into a more mobile friendly blog design over the next several months
  • better navigation and access to past posts– I’m actually working on updating past posts and the archives as a summer project.
  • font size and choice– I agree, I have thought the font was a little cumbersome to read, and it seems so light too! I am working on how to change the font through coding without breaking my blog (keep your fingers crossed!)
  • More posts :) Working on it!

Future products or downloads you would like to see available:

  • More printables in the shop (they are coming!)
  • More goal planning resources (another resource I am in the beginning stages of creating)
  • Home management and planner pages – There are so many great blogs that already have some fabulous printables in this area but I will think about putting together a resource
  • Devotional on motherhood – I hadn’t thought about creating anything like this but now the seed is planted. Thanks for the suggestion!

The Fun Stuff

I have to admit this spring I was thinking through why I blog and if any of what I write about is beneficial or helpful to anyone else. When I asked the question, “How has CHK helped you the most?” I wasn’t expecting what I read.

Wow, you guys blew me away and really touched my heart. Here a snippet of some of the things some wrote

  • “Awareness of the importance of simple living.”
  • “It’s good to know I’m not the only one who struggles with motherhood. You make me feel like we are all in this together.”
  • “Having a place to go where I know I can find honest and Biblical advice on everything that pertains to my daily life like raising my son and cleaning and nurturing my marriage is so very important to me. I need the influence of ladies like you who can take the place of the mentors I don’t have in my own family.”
  • “Reading your blog helps to keep me encouraged and motivated! I am the type that needs daily encouragement! I put unrealistic high expectations on myself and reading your blog helps bring me back to earth!”
  • “It really changed (or maybe rather just put into words) the way I feel about my job at home.”
  • “I find your positive attitude towards mothering and homemaking to be very encouraging.”

Also a few sweet responses shared how they wish they could have purchased the big homemaking bundle or other resources I promote, but funds are tight. First of all… please, please, please don’t ever feel guilty or bad about not being able to purchase something I endorse, promote, create or advertise. I know funds can be tight. I don’t promote things for you to purchase if you can’t afford them. I only promote things I believe in and make an impact in my life.

If you feel like you would benefit AND can afford it, then I thank you for purchasing it through one of my links. But please don’t ever feel bad about not being able to buy something because I’m excited it. Not everything I promote will benefit you and that’s OK.

Finally I asked what you liked about the look and experience of the blog, this is what some of you said:

  • Bright and happy
  • Clean and simple
  • Polka dots in the heading– I’ve actually been thinking about removing these to make it even more simple and clean. Thoughts?
  • “It all seems to flow together. It shows me a bit about your personality and I love that when I read your posts, it’s like you have sat down to talk directly with me!” Another statement that made my heart happy!

I also loved all the blogs you guys shared. Many I had heard of before but a few were new to me so I look forward to sharing them. The top blogs shared where:

And what you really wanted to know…

Who Won the $5 Starbucks Gift Cards?

I’ll keep the names private but five lucky readers received an email from me (and Starbucks!) with your $5 e-Gift.

Thanks to all who submitted the survey, it was really fun and helpful to read through your responses. If you have anything else you would like to add or of you didn’t get a chance to take the survey but have some thoughts, please leave me in the comment section below.

And do stay tuned because on Friday I am sharing about some changes (good ones!) that are coming to the blog.
